D-268 The ds challenge & Miss Isabella by the window

dailyshoot Daily Shoot:
Symmetry can be calm and soothing. Make a photo today featuring symmetry, either in subject or composition.
An old high tension power line - had to lay on the ground of this one.

I spent a little time with Isabella today
I must say, I'm completely smitten by her.
She was laying on my new bench by the window and I was able to capture her with available light and ISO 800

Entered this one into the "Love that shot" contest.
50mm, Nikon D-700, window light.

Sandra, you do such a beautiful job with portraits I don't know why you bother to do anything else. The two shots of Isabella are everything you could want in the photo of a child. Reminds me, the month is almost over and I haven't taken many pictures of my children yet.

I like the square crop of the power line tower, but I think the composition is a little off. For me, symmetry should be shown in a photo either perfectly, or so imperfectly that it makes to point in the reverse way.

To be clearer think skewed horizons; if the horizon is just a little skewed it looks wrong, if it is very skewed it looks intentional and gives a different feel to the picture.

For me it is the same with symmetry, it should either be perfectly symmetrical in every way, or so off that the implication of symmetry is very strong.

As always, this is just my opinion, and I certainly don't mean to imply that your image isn't a good one.

Your power line poll shot turned out really well. Lovely perspective and perfect take on TDS:Symmetry assignment. I could stare at it all day long and it definitely pulls my eyes through this shot.

Portraits of Isabella - priceless!
Lovely pose and smile. I like the way you've kept the focus on her eyes. Glad that you're able to make use of available window lighting - I am a very big fan of window lighting as well ;)

Ah, I remember your "new" office bench from your earlier shots - I like the shallow DOF on the floral pattern on the bench. Seems to have worked very well for this portrait shot.

On your question (on my blog) on B/W conversion - I used Pioneer Woman's B&W PS Actions on my symmetry shot. I also have use Coffeshop's creamy choc. B/W PS Action on earlier shots - these are all freebies ;)

Great subject for the symmetry shot! You get extra points for laying on the ground! :-)

Isabella is such a beautiful child - I love watching her grow up this way. Lovely job on her photos!

Lovely shots for me to view this morning. I think the power tower shot is really nice - strong lines and perfect in B&W.
Of course, Isabella is so sweet!

Love the perspective on the power lines. There is one right across the street from us but I never thought to lay on the ground and shoot up. nice job!

The power line tower is packed with interesting patterns and lines and the soft clouds in the sky are a nice backdrop which contribut to a feeling of calmness.

A tough subject to line up perfectly, not that I am too particular about that kind of thing - especially in the case of this shot with all the leaves around the base which detract from the edges anyway.
